Scope
As USIC continued to grow nationally, the brand lacked a centralized source of it’s identity. Logos were being used inconsistently, photography varied between departments, and marketing assets had evolved without documented standards. I was tasked with creating a comprehensive brand system that could scale across every touchpoint.
Logo Specification
Rather than redesigning the logo, my role was to establish a governance system around it. I developed guidelines for sizing, spacing, color usage, placement, and reproduction to ensure the identity remains consistent regardless of where or how it is used.
Typography
I established a clear typography system that defines when and how each typeface should be used across the brand. While Arial remained the organization's approved secondary typeface, I documented its role alongside Acumin Pro Extra Condensed to create a consistent hierarchy that is easy for teams to apply across print and digital communications.
While USIC has a well-established primary brand color, I expanded the official color palette to incorporate hues inspired by its three supplementary brands. This created a more cohesive visual system across the organization while preserving USIC's distinct identity. The expanded palette gives designers greater flexibility and strengthens the relationship between the parent brand and its family of companies.
Expanding the Color System
To complement the expanded color palette, I developed a standardized gradient system that adds depth and consistency across branded materials. By defining how gradients should be applied to photography and supporting graphics, the system creates a recognizable visual language that can be used consistently across print and digital applications.
Photography plays a critical role in shaping how a brand is perceived. I established standards that prioritize authentic moments over staged imagery, ensuring every photograph communicates safety, professionalism, and pride while accurately representing the people behind the USIC brand.
